NOVENA CARMEL

MUSIC PERSON @NOVENACARMEL

If you find yourself in a room with Novena Carmel, you’re in the right place. Now based in LA, the DJ, host, presenter, voice artist and curator was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, surrounded by her mother’s record collection and rooted in musical legacy. Her father, Sly Stone, built the blocks of her funk foundation and passed on a love for the brilliance of “everyday people.” Novena’s family connection to Brazil along with her Japanese bilingual and bicultural schooling further expanded Carmel’s world-view. When she launched her DJ career, it quickly took off, fueled by her global perspective, infectious energy and open-format music selections. She has worked with countless celebrated artists and has collaborated with major brands, organizations and venues like The Hollywood Bowl, “The Squad,” Netflix, Apple, Red Bull, Higher Ground Productions, The Smithsonian, Natural History Museum, California African American Museum, Ace Hotel, Amoeba Records, Academy Museum, and LACMA. As a musician, Novena has performed at Abbey Road, Coachella, Warped Tour and Lollapalooza.

You can catch Novena Carmel live at select events, and weekdays on-air as the host of KCRW's flagship show, Morning Becomes Eclectic. She is currently not in a band, but enjoys singing with her soul and jazz choir, The Voices of Creation.
